The Challenge

Our Future Health represents one of the most ambitious health research programmes the UK has ever seen. Backed by the NHS, the initiative aims to gather vital data that will help scientists and healthcare professionals better understand and tackle major health issues affecting the population, including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

However, a significant challenge stood in the way: participation. For medical research to be truly effective, it must reflect the diversity of the population it serves. Historically, some communities have been underrepresented in health studies, which can lead to disparities in healthcare outcomes.

The question was: how do you reach, engage, and build trust with a truly representative cross-section of the public?

Results: More than Just Awareness

A key priority of the campaign was ensuring that the data collected was as representative as possible. The outreach actively engaged individuals from all backgrounds, including diverse ethnic communities, varying socio-economic groups, and different geographic areas.

By including voices historically left out of health studies, the programme aims to drive more equitable and inclusive healthcare improvements for everyone.

The campaign was built on a simple but powerful belief: face-to-face engagement drives meaningful action.

Direct conversations allow outreach professionals to:

  • Build trust in a way that impersonal communications cannot
  • Answer questions in real time
  • Inspire action by making the science feel personal and accessible

Campaign Results

While the pilot was still ongoing at the time of publication, the early indicators were clear:

  • Community engagement was strong, with outreach teams successfully starting conversations across Manchester
  • Participation in routine health checks was being driven by trust built through face-to-face interaction
  • Awareness of the programme was growing at a grassroots level

The pilot was designed not just as a one-off activity, but as a proof of concept for future expansion. Because of its success, the model could be rolled out to more communities across the UK.

The Impact

The partnership between Our Future Health, Credico UK and Gather Campaigns represents a unique opportunity for individuals to contribute to crucial research that could improve early diagnosis, enhance treatments, and ultimately save lives. By taking part, participants join a collective effort to revolutionise healthcare for generations to come.

The campaign demonstrated that when it comes to public engagement in health research, one conversation at a time can make a profound difference. By meeting communities where they are, face-to-face, with empathy and clarity, the campaign successfully began the work of building a healthier, more inclusive future for the UK.
